Would be nice to know how they would use it instead of the secrecy.

Probably hype. I have a difficult time envisioning what they are using it for…security cars at the studios?
In the pats Hivemapper has never really said what their customers are doing with the data, or what data they are even buying; it’s been a mystery.
However Maxar actually released a blog post about it, providing the details we’ve always been asking: https://blog.maxar.com/tech-and-tradecraft/2025/from-space-to-street-maxar-and-bee-maps-are-transforming-road-network-mapping
The use case is unique and interesting. Maxar, for those who don’t know, is the satellite imagery company that tries to reimage the entire surface of the Earth every x amount of days. However satellites can only get so much resolution; so when the satellites do detect a significant change then Maxar auto generates honey bursts from Hivemapper in the region of the change, which triggers drivers to go through the region to get better imagery of the changes.
