Maybe it’s due to luck but I’ve had my WS2000 Helium ones hold a connection better than my WB1200 Wi-Fi ones. Just be sure you have a Helium IOT device within range.. ideally your own so you know it won’t disappear now that even a great Helium IOT device earns like $1 a month

Good afternoon,

By Helium network would this work on a Data-only or Brownfield Helium network? i have that at home and a Helium Indoor hotspot at another location. i would like to install the WeatherXM at the location with a Data-Only Helium network over my Unifi setup.

@PacketThrower You unifi setup is part of the helium mobile stuff. The Helium version of WeatherXM is for the Helium IOT stuff like bobcat300, sensecaps.

So it doesn’t work.

If you get the WiFi version of the WeatherXM you might be able to connect it to your unifi.

If you get the Helium version there’s a very high chance there’s already coverage in your area. You can double check this on the Helium Explorer: https://world.helium.com/en/network/iot

@JD Thanks for the information on that. If I setup an IoT infrastructure, I’d be the only person in 900 square miles with it. I am getting older IoT equipment from someone that’s getting out of the projects later on this month. I will mess with that and see what happens.

I have a good amount of Wifi coverage on my property. I’m the only person with GeodNet, Wingbits, and WeatherXM in my area. Would WeatherXM be a good option for a very rural area?

I like the WS2000 because it uses the helium network and the IOT wireless network. Its a use case scenario. A+ on that. Better IOT network connections. If one IOT miner goes down it connects to others over 1000 feet away. WIFI doesn’t have that range.

The downside. It seems the WB1200 pays more because its wifi and not on the helium network. Helium network IOT fees with the WS2000 broadcasting even the small amounts of data.

I like the weather reporting. Temperature, wind speed and direction, rainfall and solar sun intensity is a plus. Would be nice to see a graphical desktop terminal that connected to these stations.

I have a bobcat miner that my ws2000 connects to but even then there is IOT miner competition and My ws2000 likes to talk to a neighboring IOT miner. it swaps back and forth depending on signal. I’m at -68db but it bounces off neighboring houses. the competitor is -122db but straight line of sight.

Looking back an advantage to the WB1200 is you get a desktop display of your active weather data so it’s similar to any normal weather station inside the house. You are just limited to your wifi network range. Point is you get earnings from your weather station running compared to buying one retail for the same price that has no benefit other than weather info.

I have 4 Helium units and have been happy with them. Had for about 2 years now, never any issues with them, never had to replace the batteries, good solid units. I install them where I have IOT miners installed, or plan to. I’ve actually been thinking about maybe getting 2 more units.

@Centurion_2K Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm strongly considering the Helium version, but the one feature holding me back is the lack of a dedicated indoor display. While I know the data is always available on the app, I find the idea of a glanceable screen to be a major advantage of the WiFi model. It's a tough trade-off!

The WiFi version claims their screen is based on the Seeed Studio Indicator. I wonder if there could be a way to harness the data from a Helium XM and get it to display on this screen. https://www.seeedstudio.com/SenseCAP-Indicator-D1-p-5643.html?srsltid=AfmBOopAFiHppkZjZIwd8XzZ9IXYSQaZe5NSDFY4uf1oIb1_i8STl34c

Helium version for me. I’m in a rural area and have had this going for years on my own IOT.

Hardly touched it, changed batteries maybe twice.

This was my second DePIN thing so I had the good years of WXM. Total earned $WXM is 1,735.

I went with the helium version. Might as well make a couple bucks a year in data transfers with my helium iot miner.

I am thinking about jumping on a weather station too but not sure from which model or brand. XM is a top contender for me.

I have a wifi unit but I’m dissapointed in it. It ended up breaking on me, they send me a part that was supposed to fix it but it did not. Haven’t gotten anywhere with support since then. Unit always says its 100F outside no matter what the actual temp is. Plus ROI isnt very good. It was fun to have when it worked though.

New Grass Hardware (Grasshopper)

For those who missed it. Grass is releasing hardware soon. So instead of running the browser extensions the assumption is the device itself will be enough and probably have some boosted rewards since HW normally does as the selling point.

You can sign up here to buy the hardware. https://grasshopper.grass.io

You can learn more about grass here: https://www.grass.io

Are you going to order a Grasshopper?
