How high up in the air are your Geodnet / Wingbits Miners? Thinking I might need to erect a tower for maximum coverage and maximize my returns.
@Keggermining Not the highest. Im in the Appalachian Mtns in the US so hard to get a good spot with all the sky in view. All the houses are in valleys it seems. I have mine on rooftop corners with the best possible spot without looking too crazy.

@Keggermining It’s more about blockages. Ideally higher is better but you mainly just want to be higher than nearby objects so it doesn’t occlude your antenna’s view.
For Geodnet you can get “high enough” to maximize your rewards, however for Wingbits the higher you go the further your receiving signal can reach = more rewards.

@Keggermining i mean theoretically, it can go has high as u want, question is at what distances does the wifi signal begin to affect your profits. then same for the power. other things such as neighbors/HOA bylaws. in the US, i believe the property line extends like 500 ft above. then el govermente takes over

@Xrave what about having too many trees? I cant cut them down and this has been my main issue for not investing. How can I tell before buying if I have enough clearance to mount it. No one has hexes where I am for geod or wingbits
@Ghuleh hard to say about trees…talking 1 or 2? Or are trees surrounding it on all sides?
If you have trees, are you able to install the Geodnet properly so you can clear >10deg above the antenna’s horizon?
If you can install the miner correctly for Geodnet, based on that above image, then you should be ok for Wingbits even though Wingbits always benefits from increased elevation.
Also note that Geodnet is a fixed revenue amount as long as it’s installed properly. For Wingbits, even if there aren’t others installed near you, ultimately your rewards are based on how many planes you can reach. If you aren’t near an airport or any flight corridor then your rewards will suffer, even if you have a perfect install.

@Ghuleh I think j so long as you can somehow get a clear line of sight @ 10 degrees. I remember we had a 6 foot diameter antenna dish in the back yard growing up. Think my father was getting that illegal skinnamax. But anyhow I recall our inside antenna receivers my father would wrap in aluminum foil. I will attempt to give my mw310 an aluminum tin foil hat and post pictures with results. Who knows. What if it picks up signals from voyager 2.

The two hex sizes are for deployment and rewards. The smaller sizes are the hexes where you can put a station; only one allowed per hex. When you click on the station you see a bunch of larger shaded hexes show up, which is the coverage of the station.
Your rewards are based on how many hexes your station can reach, how many planes fly through it, and how early you setup vs others who were there before you.

@Xrave One cool feature I like I when you click on Map overview then click on your station and zoom out you can see all the hexes your station is receiving data from and how much data (percent) from each hex with a ranking. What is also nice is you can see active aircraft your station is receiving data from and the distance from your station moving through your region. That’s the most valuable data for me a wingbits operator and aircraft enthusiast. Data for each aircraft is also crucial for awareness of altitude and signal strength to your station. Zoom in and you can see the large hex for receiving data and the smaller hex for each stations exclusive access and reservation.
GEODnet allows more than one receiver per hex but the first in a hex with successful deployment gets an exclusive reservation token for 100% rewards any additional antennas have to split the rewards evenly with the next 100% and any antennas within 100m may nullify rewards.

I’m looking at my Geodnet and it says reward status “unknown”. Curious why that is. Would “Underperforming” be cited because 96.69% (30 days average). It typically is 98 -99% so the only thing I can think of is possibly weather (overcast)?? It would be great if project creators could chime in and recommend what can be done to improve performance. Thanks!
