ASIC miners and tracking are coming to Moken and I couldn’t be more excited. I’d like to share my general opinion and experience on some of the miners offered by HD for those looking to buy.
If you have a different experience or would like to discuss more about any of these, feel free to leave a comment!
Canaan Avalon Nano 3s - $320 ★★★
The Avalon Nano 3s is a Bitcoin miner running 6th/s for 130-140w
This device is best for solo-mining bitcoin. Pool mining could earn around ~$120 or .00116 Bitcoin per year.
Heat output from this device is rather low compared to machines with similar power consumption. The device gets warm, but never physically hot - I trust it to not catch fire.
Solid choice for a set-and-forget home lotto miner.
Goldshell Byte - $400/$420 ★★
The Goldshell Byte is an intuitive miner that utilizes hash cards to determine the algorithm you use for mining. Each AE Card runs 5.5MH/s @65w and each DG Card runs 80MH/s @65w
The device can support 2 cards which can have different algorithms, though this did not work on release and people are still having issues today.
These miners are best for solo mining but can also earn small amounts from pool mining.
Heat output from this device is dangerous… due to the miniature-fan design of these cards, they rely solely on ambient temp to stay cool. If you were to put your hand on one of these running full bore it would burn within 10 seconds. I DO NOT trust this device to not set on fire…
I like the concept of this unit but have little to no faith that GS is going to execute it well going forward - They will milk the hell out of it for profit.
Goldshell AE Box - $750 // PSU - $120 ★★
The GoldShell AE box is an ALEO miner running 37MH/s @360w
This device is best for pool mining ALEO coin. Current pool earnings are around $515 per year. Electricity costs are around $320 per year (based on .13c/kwh)
Based on the current price from HD this miner is not profitable at all. These earnings will also continue to go down as the market becomes saturated with ALEO miners. I usually steer clear of units like this due to the unknown future of the coin and network hashrate.
HD website also states you can use ATX power supplies for the GS BOX units. While this is possible, I strongly advise against doing so. ATX power supplies, while they may be rated for 1000w, do not have wires rated for such a focused amount of power. If you look into the GS discord you will find multiple occasions of people using ATX power supplies and the wires caught fire. (This device is relatively low-powered compared to other miners in the ‘Box’ series, so could be no issue. But seeing other peoples experience with ATX PSU’s, I felt it necessary to leave this warning)
Fluminer L1 - $3,300 ★★★★
The Fluminer L1 is the a Doge/LTC multi-miner running 5.3GH/s @1200w
This ASIC is one of the most efficient home-miners currently on the market. Yearly earnings on this device are close to $2,100 based on current coin price with electricity cost being $900/year (based on .13c/kwh)
The device is rack-mountable and relatively quiet using a row of fans to pass air through the machine. It does create a decent amount of heat but much less compared to higher-end ASICs
If you can get this miner for a good price then I think it is a worthwhile investment, the coins are stable and move nicely with market bull runs.
Fluminer L1 PRO coming soon
Iceriver AEO - $1100 // PSU - $65 ★★★★★
The Iceriver AEO is an ALEO miner running 60MH/s @100w
This ASIC is part of the ‘O’ series of extremely power-efficient home miners. Yearly earnings on this device are close to $850 based on current market price with electricity costing only $80.
While Iceriver does not produce ‘main’ algorithm miners like BTC/ETC/LTC, they are consistently the best ‘alt’ coin producers. Their machines are always more efficient and lower priced than competitors like Goldshell, and I’ve had no issues from my 15+ Iceriver machines.
If you are going to take a gamble into ALEO, this device is the way to go. With a low power consumption of only 100w, this unit gives off hardly any heat - making it a great set-and-forget home miner.
Thanks for reading this all the way through :)

My opinion on some of the brands:
The nano 3s psu gets hot as hell. People already had them catch on fire/burn out. It was a very easy setup and “apple” like unboxing
The BYTE. Buggy as hell, I never had a more rough time setting a ASIC up. I got it running in the end. Very low hashrate for the money, I’m not a fan. I’ve seen dead PSU already in support. They are also noisy compared to other machines of similar hashrates.
Fluminer, had zero problems setting them up. Doing a firmware update was a little weird but got it working in the end. Been smooth sailing since.
Volcminer, had zero problems setting them up. No concerns either.
Elphapex and Iceriver, I never set one up yet so cannot talk about it too much.
