What worries me is that the project does not incentivize reception quality or coverage area.
In Wingbits, the larger the coverage area and the more unique the data, the higher the station’s rewards.
From what I understand about 4dSky, if the station is online you receive 25, whether it has small coverage or large coverage.

I’ve been operating a Jetvision Airsquitter for roughly two months and this equipment is very cool. I still have lots to learn so I’ll start by sharing screenshots to give y’all an idea of what’s visible when you connect to it on your local network.

I am interested in these types of projects and devices. I entered my address into the estimator which resulted in the following… “You are not near an airport and are more than 2km from the nearest device”.
I verified the straight line distance between my location and AZA Airport using freemaptools.com: 5.17 miles. So I guess I need to be on the airport property to earn any value from this project. To the folks at 4DSky… I would love to know your thoughts.

@cptdrinian thanks for pointing this out. we are using point coordinates from the airport centres to calculate distance. I’ll review this number tomorrow, and I’ll have an update asap.
The aim of the points system is to try and correlate the points with value as closely as possible. We still have some work to do, but we’ll correct things quickly when we get it wrong.

@james_4dsky I’d also like to second this concern. My Airsquitter is mounted 20M atop a high slope two story roof, 2600M from the nearest runway threshold, and about 3,000-3,500M from approx. airport center. It easily captures data from aircraft on the ground that have their transponder on. The screenshots I posted several days ago in this thread* are from that unit’s position.
I could relocate it to a one story building perhaps 1,000-1,500M from the approx. center of the airfield but it’d be a scant 4M above ground level and be obstructed by slightly sloping terrain and numerous structures.
It’d be worth considering allowing for a greater distance from an airport (or, say, nearest runway threshold) still be rewarded for proximity, perhaps with the aid of real-world performance data.

Project seems great but, IMHO, the device is really too expensive in this market situation, compared with Wingbits also. Please note that I’m not doing a technical comparison between the two projects or the two devices, maybe the 4DSKY is far more better, just thinking about how long will it take us to reach breakeven and that in this market situation selling cripto to buy this device maybe is not the best strategy :D
