Many of my helium units with actual utility are still making decent money. Some even more so than many of these other depin projects that cost 2x as much to start. My highest earning indoor unit would make the investment back in a month based on current earnings.
If you know you’ve got some decent locations, go for it.

@Yakob Thank you! I think I am sitting on a goldmine as long as I get the deployment right. I was checking the hotspot explorer and there is a hotel in SeaTac that has them deployed all over the hotel that has 5 of them deployed (https://world.helium.com/en/network/mobile/hotspot/139577) that’s made 212.622 HNT the last 30 days. Still not amazing at current pricing but it’s the best in WA.

Something people overlook all the time is they rely on the 50 cents a gig reward that exists now and try to build a business around that.
The concern with this is the 50 cents a gig reward is being subsidized by Nova. Eventually this price will drop. To what number? People anticipate to where the true cost per gb would be in those locations. They are all different.
Don’t be surprised if it ends up going to 10 cents a gig one day.
There’s been a lot of people who have tried to make a deployment business before and lots of them get screwed at some point from network changes. Not trying to say it’s a bad idea but people go underwater very easy with slight changes.
If you are 100% set on doing this watch out how to setup your agreement. If you want to pay half of what it earn to the business, sure that works but eventually when it’s like too little money for the business to care I’ve seen them ask to remove the hotspot.
but maybe you can sell it as a service that boosts the cell phone signal to keep customers in the store longer.
The point I’m trying to make is think outside the rewards. If you rely on those you will most likely get screwed at some point.
Some people tell the businesses they will buy them another internet line as backup to deploy in their locations. But when the rewards drop they might be underwater on the internet connection.
The way data transfer works currently is it doesn’t matter what price HNT is. It 50 cents a gig and can only go lower.

@JD Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for. Yes, something that keeps clients in the business, spending more money, is more valuable that the hopes of making (at best) a few hundred dollars a month. I plan to deploy the hotspot with a VLAN so as to protect their other data. As a business owner myself, I can see where “let me attach this to the system where you keep your customer data” is an easy no. If it is secure via VLAN and it helps me earn a few thousand dollars / month through additional sales, I’m in. It’s all about the WIFM

Is it a terrible idea to start a helium hotspot deployment business now? Has the opportunity passed? I have 4-5 restaurants, 1 office and a salon where I could place them right away. I’ve look at explorer and seen that similar locations in my city aren’t generating amazing production but they are generally daytime restaurants vs the nightlife spots I have identified. I was at one last night and there were so many people staring at their phones (of course I just saw tokens floating in the air above their heads 😂). Anyway, what are your thoughts. The price of the unit being $250ish makes it seem like a reasonable bet.
