@jochenglad to have you onboard :) ADS-B is great, but only about 50% of aircraft carry ADS-B transponders unfortunately. We were going to go with an ADS-B only device originally, but after working with customers and the regulator, we found that it wasn’t sufficient for airports, drones, or any safety related application.

4DSKY partnered with Jetvision, because their devices detect all the aviation frequencies, and provide additional security and detection via MLAT, which is also a regulatory requirement for safety related applications.

As an FYI, some of my hosts got their first batch shipment notification today.

@Ortega I think I was in the second batch (December 5th). I’m in the USA and just got a USPS tracking number an hour ago (Origin shows Chattanooga, TN). When I ordered it had a Jan 1 estimated delivery, so they’re going to be pretty darn close assuming it starts moving today.

@Ortega apologies guys. Our teams are doing our best to get units out to you asap. This first batch has taught us a lot in terms of process, working alongside Helium Deploy, who have been great, and the OEM, Jetvision. We are doing as much as possible to shorten the end-to-end process.

The process is complex due to multiple antenna and firmware configs, plus multiple warehouses, and the need to establish clear process between parties. That doesn't excuse any delays, and I'll apologise for that and take responsibility, but if it's any consolation, the delay will be short, and I'll take a look at some form of points bonus for those people affected.

@kwickernet Same situation I’m in — no movement on the tracker or updates from Helium Deploy. I watched the YouTube live, and they made it seem like they had the device ready to ship. I’m going to reach out to HD and see if they have any updates. @james_4dsky Do you have any insight into the shipping timeframes for the Airsquitter from HD?

I know we are supposed to get bonus points for purchasing early, but it’s kind of frustrating that the devices aren’t getting shipped or showing any movement.

Hey @here, thanks for your patience. We are preparing an email and working through replies regarding 4DSKY deliveries. The first batch was originally estimated for December 24th. Manufacturing and inbound shipping took a few extra days, and with the holidays the warehouse fulfillment process is also taking a bit longer. The good news is that the first batch is already at the respective warehouses. Packing and shipping should begin shortly, with tracking numbers going out as orders are processed. We are also working alongside the manufacturer to get the second batch ready to ship. Thank you for bearing with us, and happy holidays.

@cptdrinian thanks for pointing this out. we are using point coordinates from the airport centres to calculate distance. I’ll review this number tomorrow, and I’ll have an update asap.

The aim of the points system is to try and correlate the points with value as closely as possible. We still have some work to do, but we’ll correct things quickly when we get it wrong.

@james_4dsky I’d also like to second this concern. My Airsquitter is mounted 20M atop a high slope two story roof, 2600M from the nearest runway threshold, and about 3,000-3,500M from approx. airport center. It easily captures data from aircraft on the ground that have their transponder on. The screenshots I posted several days ago in this thread* are from that unit’s position.

I could relocate it to a one story building perhaps 1,000-1,500M from the approx. center of the airfield but it’d be a scant 4M above ground level and be obstructed by slightly sloping terrain and numerous structures.

It’d be worth considering allowing for a greater distance from an airport (or, say, nearest runway threshold) still be rewarded for proximity, perhaps with the aid of real-world performance data.

@cptdrinian just as a quick update, we will be extending airport rewards out to 15km.

15km = no bonus
10km = 1/3 bonus
5km = 2/3 bonus
0km = max bonus

We will be improving this regularly to ensure rewards match value created, so focus on finding a good location, and the rewards will improve to match that. Thank you in advance
